Important Rules

Rules about the Prophets عليهم السلام

1. We do not draw them.
2. We do not make them into cartoons, films or plays.
2. We do not make fun of them.
3. We do not make up stories about them.
4. We believe in all of them.
5. We do not try to draw Nooh's ark, Moosa's staff, Sulaymaan's Palace etc.
6. We do not look for extra details and archaeological sites. If they were important Allah would have told us about them.
7. We do not worship them.
8. We do not worship at their graves nor do we go on a journey just to visit their graves.
9. We do not make special trips to visit all the artifacts and places they went to.
10. We follow the Qur'aan and the Sunnah. We do not innovate or add anything extra to the religion or worship.

When talking about the Prophets عليهم السلام we take our knowledge from the Qur'aan and the Authentic Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم. These are the best and most reliable sources. The people of the past also have stories of the Prophets. They are called the 'Israelite Traditions'.

As Muslims if the Israelite traditions agree with what is in the Qur'aan or Sunnah we accept them.
If they disagree with our sources we reject them.
If there is nothing to support or negate them then we neither believe in them nor disagree with them.

Aadam عليه السلام was the first Prophet and Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم was the last of all the Prophets and he was sent to the whole of mankind (and not just to his people like other Prophets).

People who believed in the Prophets were called 'believers'. However, each time a new Prophet came the 'believers' had to then follow the new Prophet. All the Prophets had the same Message: Worship Allaah (God) alone and do not worship anything besides Him. Some Prophets had specific laws related to their peoples which changed according to time and people.
The Message stays the same but the laws were abrogated by Allaah. Everyone now should follow the laws of the last Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم.
Allaah tells us that the previous scriptures were lost and changed. Allaah promised to protect the Qur'aan and that it could not be changed. This has been proved down the centuries that the Qur'aan has not changed since its revelation. See The Oldest Fragment of the Qur'aan Click here

62. Verily! Those who believe and those who are Jews and Christians, and Sabians, whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and do righteous good deeds shall have their reward with their Lord, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve . [Baqarah 2:62]

              وَمَن يَبْتَغِ غَيْرَ الْإِسْلَامِ دِينًا فَلَن يُقْبَلَ مِنْهُ وَهُوَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ

85. And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers. [3:85]

Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih al 'Uthaymeen in his tafseer of verse 62 in Suratul Baqarah mentioned the following points (paraphrased):

"After the sending of Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم, those Jews, Christians and Sabians who did not believe in him are not believers because if they were true believers in Allaah and the Last Day they would have followed Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم.

The Jews who did not believe in Eesaa became disbelievers. Then the Jews and Christians who did not believe in Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم became disbelievers. Disbelievers even of their own Prophet as they had told them that Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم was coming and to believe in him."
