The Story of Prophet Moosa عليه السلام  in More Details

1. Birth of Moosa عليه السلام
Pharaoh had a dream that someone from Banee Israel would challenge his kingdom so he ordered that all the baby boys be killed. This is why Allaah inspired Moosa’s Mother to put him in a box in the river to protect him. His Mother was called Jochebed and his father was called Imraan. Moosa had a sister who followed her baby brother. She suggested to Pharaoh’s wife that she knew someone who would feed and look after the baby for them. This led to him being returned to his Mother as Allaah had reassured her before, in addition to making him a Messenger.
See [Qasas 28:1-13] [Ghaafir 40:25] [Taha 20:37-40]

2. Moosa Enters Pharaoh’s Palace
Pharaoh’s wife was called Aasiyah and she was a believer. They did not have any children. She persuaded Pharaoh to take in the baby that they had found floating down the river. This is how Moosa grew up in the household of Pharaoh but at the same time Allaah had mercy upon Moosa’s Mother and she was hired to feed and look after him after other women were not able to suckle him.

3. Moosa kills a Man
Moosa had wisdom and knowledge bestowed on him when he reached his full age and was firmly established. Some say this was when he was 40 years old. Moosa belonged to Banee Israel. When a person from his people called on him to help fight a man from Pharaoh’s people, Moosa helped him. He hit him with his fist and killed the man unintentionally. Then the same man asked Moosa for help another day but this time they warned him that Pharaoh’s people would kill him for murder so he fled from Egypt to Madyan to avoid being killed.
See [Qasas 28:14-20]

4. Moosa goes to Madyan
He went to Madyan, which is the same place where Allaah destroyed the People of the Thicket, Prophet Shu’ayb’s People. Moosa saw two girls with a flock of animals waiting for the other shepherds to water their flock. He offered to help them and watered their flock for them. There was a huge stone at the mouth of the well that had to be removed and replaced to water the flocks. ‘Umar رضي الله عنه said it was so huge that 10 men were needed to lift it. But Moosa عليه السلام was strong and lifted it by himself. Ibn ‘Abbaas said that Moosa went from Egypt to Madyan eating only plants and leaves. He was barefooted and his stomach was stuck to his back out of hunger. He makes du’aa to Allaah for good.
See [Qasas 28:21-24]

5. Moosa takes refuge in Madyan
After this, one of the girls returns to him and asks him to meet her Father who wanted to thank him for his good deed. The daughter described Moosa as strong and trustworthy and when asked how do you know she said he lifted a rock that would need 10 men. In addition to that when she went to bring him to her father he asked her to walk behind him and throw a pebble on the path if she needed to change direction. The Father offers his daughter in marriage to Moosa and asks him to work for them for 8 or 10 years. Moosa agreed and fulfilled the term of 10 years. Some people say that the Father could have been Prophet Shu’ayb but Allaah Knows best.
See [Qasas 28:25-28]

6. Moosa and Mount Toor
Then he returned to Egypt with his family. It was a dark, cold night and they lost their way. Moosa spotted a fire in the distance which meant he could take a fire brand to warm themselves and ask the people for directions to Egypt. [Taha 20:9-10] [Naml 27:7-9]
The fire was on the side of Mount Toor الطور . He was called by Allaah from the right side of the Valley from a tree in the blessed ground. This was the Sacred Valley of Tuwa. الوادي المقدس الطوى. He was told to remove his shoes out of respect for the place.
This was the first revelation from Allaah to Moosa. He was told to call to tawheed and establish the prayer to worship Him alone. He was told about recompense in the Next Life. [20:11-16] Moosa asked for his brother Haaroon (Aaron) to help him as he was more eloquent in speech than Moosa. Pharaoh made fun of Moosa because he was not able to speak clearly.[43:52]
It was said that Moosa burned his tongue when he was young which impeded his speech and gave him a lisp.
See [Qasas 28:29-32] [Taha 20:9-21] [Naml 27:7-9;12]

7. The Two Signs for Pharaoh
Allaah showed him the two signs to show to Pharaoh to prove that he is telling the truth: the staff turning into a snake and his hand turning white
See [Taha 20:17-21] [Naml 27:12]

8. Moosa and Haaroon go to Pharaoh to call him to worship Allaah
Some say it took two years for them to be allowed into the palace gates as the guards were too afraid to ask Pharaoh. They call him to worship Allaah and show him their signs but he turned away and called Moosa a magician. Pharaoh believed he owned Egypt and the rivers beneath him. He claimed Lordship for himself.
See [Qasas 28:33-35, 38] [Taha 20:29-36, 40-59] [Maryam 19:53] [Shu’araa 26:10-28] [Naazi’aat 79:23-24] [Naml 27:14] [Ghafir 40:36-37]

9. Moosa and the Magicians
Pharaoh called for magicians to outwit Moosa. The magicians knew that what Moosa came with could not be magic and therefore they believed in Allaah and prostrated. Pharaoh just said that Moosa was their leader who taught them the magic and that is why they believed. Pharaoh chopped off their hands and legs on opposite sides and crucified them for believing in the Lord of Moosa before asking his permission.
[Taha 20:56-76] [Shu’araa 26:29-51] [A’araaf 7:103-126] [Yunus 10:75-82]

10. The Chiefs incite Pharaoh to kill Moosa
The Chiefs tell Pharaoh to kill Moosa. They also ordered a new set of killing the sons of Banee Israel as a humiliation for them. It would also reduce their numbers and keep them as slaves.
[A’raaf 7:127-129] [Yunus 10:84-86] [Ghafir 40:23-26]

11. The Believer
The believing man from Pharaoh’s household who hid his faith tried to dissuade Pharaoh from killing Moosa. It is said he was Pharaoh’s cousin (son of his Uncle).
See [Ghaafir 40:27-35; 38-40;46]

12. Signs and trials – the 7 plagues

They rejected Allaah’s signs so Allaah put them to trial with 7 signs to show Pharaoh:
·         Years of scarcity
·         low harvests
·         The flood
·         The locusts
·         The lice
·         The frogs
·         The blood
These signs only affected Pharaoh and his people and not Moosa and his people. This was a clear sign that the believers were saved.
See [Al ‘Araaf 7:130-133]

13. Banee Israel leave Egypt and Pharaoh Follows.  The Sea Splits
Allaah commanded Moosa and Banee Israel to leave Egypt at night. It is said there were 500, 000 of them. Pharaoh followed Banee Israel with a one and a half million army and a hundred thousand horse riders. When they got to the sea Moosa was trapped with nowhere to escape and Pharaoh was behind them. Allaah commanded Moosa to strike the sea with his staff and it miraculously parted into 12 dry paths with the sea water towering like mountains on either side. Moosaa and Banee Israel escaped through the paths to the other side.
See [Yunus 10:87, 90-92] [Shu’araa 26:52-68] [Dukhaan 44:17-24] [Taha 20:77-79] [Ghafir 40:84-85] [A’raaf 7:136-141]

14. The Destruction of Pharaoh and His Army
Then they watched as Pharaoh and his army tried to cross but the sea returned to its normal state and drowned them. Pharaoh and his army drowned in front of Banee Israel’s eyes on the Day of Aashooraa. This is the day the Jews in Madeenah were fasting and Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم told the Muslims to fast as we have more right to Moosaa than them.
See [Naazi’aat 79:20-26] [Hud 11:96-99] [Yunus 10:88-89]

15. Banee Israel after the Destruction of Pharaoh

Allaah promised Banee Israel Jerusalem – the Holy Land through Ibraheem and Moosa. However, Banee Israel refused to fight the Canaanites and Hittites so Allaah punished them by leaving them to wander in the desert for 40 years. They had just witnessed Allaah’s power when He split the sea and saved them. Destroying Pharaoh and his people. Yet they did not trust Allaah’s promise that they would enter the Holy Land. It is said Moosa and Haaroon fell in prostration to Allaah to prevent Allaah’s Wrath descending upon them for their refusing to fight and their disobedience. It is said that in those forty years all of them died and none survived except their offspring. Compare that response of Banee Israel disobeying their Prophet Moosa with the response of the Companions رضي الله عنهم  of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم on the Day of Badr: “Go you and your Lord and fight, and we will fight with you together. (p404)
See [Maa’idah 5:20-26]

16. Banee Israel go into the Wandering as a punishment for disobeying Allaah’s Orders.

Due to them disobeying Allaah they were punished by being left to wander in the desert 40 years where they all died (except for their offspring who survived and went on to conquer Jerusalem). Even during their years of punishment Allaah provided them with water, shade and food consisting of manna gum in the mornings and quails in the evenings.
See [Baqarah 2:54-57, 60-61] [Taha 20:80-82]

17. Moosa asks to see Allaah

Allaah called Moosa for an appointed meeting of 40 days. 30 days of Dhul Qa’dah and 10 days of Dhul Hijjah. Moosa fasted those 30 days. Moosa asked to see Allaah. However, he fainted and the mountain turned to dust when Allaah revealed just a tiny portion of the veil over His Light. Allaah inscribed on the Tablets. The Tablets were made of precious jewels. “Allaah wrote the Tawrah with His Hand, and it contains admonitions and detailed injunctions of halal and haraam.” (Muslim 2652).
See [A’raaf 7:80-82]

18. Banee Israel Worship the Calf

It is said that wherever Jibreel’s horse set its foot, green grass grew. Samiri took some dust from the footprints and threw it into the calf. ‘Touch me not’ was a curse upon Samiri. Moosa burnt the calf in the fire and scattered it into the sea. He commanded the Israelites to drink the water. Whoever worshipped the calf was exposed by the ashes sticking to their lips and they turned yellow.
70,000 people were killed for worshipping the calf.
Moosa chose 70 of his people for the appointed time with Allaah. They went to apologise for what the calf worshippers did. They were commanded to wash their clothes, have a bath, perfume themselves and fast. The Mount was covered in a thick cloud. Moosa climbed up the mountain and entered the cloud to receive the revelation. The 70 men entered the cloud and fell in prostrations. They heard Allaah speaking to Moosa.
When Moosa went back to his people they said we will not believe until we see Allaah. Allaah struck them with a thunderbolt and they died. They were struck because they did not forbid the people from worshipping the calf.
Ibn ‘Abbaas said: when Moosa came with the Tablets that contained the Tawrah, he commanded them to receive it with firmness and good will. However, they disputed with him so Allaah ordered the angels to raise the mountain above their heads until it was like a canopy. If they did not accept it this mountain would fall on their heads. So they accepted it and were ordered to prostrate which they did.
See [A’raaf 7:138-139, 148-156, 171] [Taha 83-98] [Baqarah 2:63-64]

19. The Story of the Cow and the Murdered Man
A rich man from Banee Israel was killed by his nephew but no one knew who did it. The people asked Moosa and Allaah revealed for them to kill a cow and strike the murdered man with a part of it. Banee Israel did not want to obey Allaah so they tried to delay slaughtering the cow by asking lots of unnecessary questions. They finally found the described cow but its owner only sold it to them when they offered ten times its weight in gold. They slaughtered the cow and struck the murdered man with a part of it. (We do not know which part of the cow and it is of no use asking about it. If it were important Allaah would have told us about it in the Qur’aan). When they did this the man came back to life briefly and told the people who had killed him.
[Baqarah 2:67-73]

20. The Story of Moosa and Khidr
Moosa thought that he was the most knowledgeable of people. However, Allaah informed him that there was a servant who knew things that he did not know. Therefore Moosa set out on a journey to find him and learn from him. Moosa’s companion on the journey was Yooshaa bin Noon (who later went on to conquer Jerusalem after Moosa passed away). They found Khidr at the junction of the two seas when their fish disappeared into the sea. They followed him and witnessed him making a hole in the boat of some poor people. Then he killed a youth and finally he rebuilt a wall. Read Suratul Kahf for the full story and for the explanation of his actions.
See [Kahf 18:60-82]

21. The Story of Qaaroon
It is said that Qaaroon was Moosa’s cousin (son of his Uncle). He was called ‘Munawwar’ the enlightened one because he read the Tawrah with a beautiful voice. But later his arrogance of his wealth destroyed him. It is said that they keys were made of skin and were carried on 60 mules. A group of strong men were needed to carry them. Being mightier in wealth and power is no proof that Allaah loves him or cares for him.
It is said that Qaaroon gave some money to a bad woman to go to Moosa in front of the people and say ‘you have done such and such with me’. She did that and Moosa was shaken by it and prayed two rak’ah. He then went to her and asked her to swear upon her claim and asked her why she said such an evil thing. She told Moosa Qaaroon had forced her to do it and she repented to Allaah. Moosaa made prostration to Allaah and asked Him to curse Qaaroon.
It is narrated that when Qaaroon came out displaying his wealth he said, ‘if you have been favoured over me with Prophethood, I have been favoured over you with wealth. He then asked Moosa to go to a place and to invoke a Divine curse on him and he would curse Moosa. Allaah rejected Qaaroon’s curse upon Moosa and accepted Moosa’s curse against Qaaroon. He and his wealth were swallowed into the ground.
This incident could have happened in Egypt before Moosa left with Banee Israel or it could have happened during their time wandering in the desert.
Qaaroon is mentioned a few times in the Qur’aan: [Ghaafir 40:23-24], [Ankaboot 29:39-40] [Qasas 28:76-83]. He is also mentioned in a hadeeth which talks about a person who disregards the salah will be raised with Qaaroon, Pharaoh, Haamaan and Ubay bin Khalaf.

22. The Excellence of Moosa عليه السلام
He was tall, ruddy in colour with curly hair. He was sincere. Allaah spoke to him directly [4:163-164]. He was highly honoured [33:69]. He was bashful and modest. Moosa’s people accused him of having a skin disease because he used to keep his body covered. One day he was having a bath and the stone where he placed his clothes ran away. Moosa chased after it and the people saw that he had the best of what Allaah created. He beat the stone with his staff and it cried.
During the night journey to the heavens Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم met Moosa عليه السلام in the sixth heaven. He advised the Prophet to ask Allaah to reduce the prayers from fifty times a day to five.
See [Ahzaab 33:69] [Maryam 19:51-53] [A’raaf 7:144] [Nisaa 4:163-164]

23. Moosa and his Pilgrimage to Makkah
When the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم  came to the Valley of Azraq he said that it was if he could see Moosa descending from the mountain trail saying the talbiyyah for hajj.

24. The Death of Moosa عليه السلام

The angel came to him and Moosa beat him and pushed him. The angel went back to Allaah and complained that You have sent me to a slave who does not want to die. Allaah said go back to him and tell him to put his hand on the back of an ox. Whatever he covers with his hand of the hair of that ox, he will be granted a year for every hair. Moosa said ‘O my Lord. Then what will happen?’ He replied, ‘Death’. Moosa said, ‘Then why not now?’ (Saheeh Bukhaaree) Then Moosa requested to die near the Holy Land at a stone’s throw from it. (His grave is below the red sandhill on the side of the road). Moosa died in the Wandering before they entered and conquered the Holy Land (Jerusalem). Haroon died before him. Moosa desired to be close to the land that they were asked to migrate to.

And Fir'aun (Pharaoh) proclaimed among his people, saying: "O my people! Is not mine the dominion of Egypt, and these rivers flowing underneath me. See you not then?

Waadi Tuwa - Tuwa is a name of a valley (not mentioned where)

إِنِّي أَنَا رَبُّكَ فَاخْلَعْ نَعْلَيْكَ ۖ إِنَّكَ بِالْوَادِ الْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى
"Verily! I am your Lord! So take off your shoes, you are in the sacred valley, Tuwa.

Toor (means a mountain with trees and vegetation)

And (O Children of Israel, remember) when We took your covenant and We raised above you the Mount (saying): "Hold fast to that which We have given you, and remember that which is therein so that you may become Al-Muttaqun (the pious) Baqarah 2:63

Ibn Abbaas said the Toor is in Palestine (Tafseer Baghawee)

وَالتِّينِ وَالزَّيْتُونِ
وَطُورِ سِينِينَ
وَهَٰذَا الْبَلَدِ الْأَمِينِ

2. By Mount Sinai,
3. And by this city of security (Makkah) ,
Teen 95:1-3

Shaykh Sa’dee indicated that these were the three places of Prophethood:
1.      Prophet Eesaa عليه السلام was in Shaam (The Levant: Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria),
2.      Prophet Moosa عليه السلام  was in Sinai and
3.      Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم  was in Makkah.

وَشَجَرَةً تَخْرُجُ مِن طُورِ سَيْنَاءَ تَنبُتُ بِالدُّهْنِ وَصِبْغٍ لِّلْآكِلِينَ
And a tree (olive) that springs forth from Mount Sinai, that grows oil, and (it is a) relish for the eaters.
Mu’minoon 23:20

Shaykh Sa’dee mentions ‘in the area of Shaam’.

(Side note – olive trees grow in Shaam and Northern Arabia)

Moosa عليه السلام  in the Qur’aan – Some of the meanings of the Aayaat
Suratul Baqarah (51-96)
51. And (remember) when We appointed for Musa (Moses) forty nights, and (in his absence) you took the calf (for worship), and you were Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.).
52. Then after that We forgave you so that you might be grateful.
53. And (remember) when We gave Musa (Moses) the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah)] and the criterion (of right and wrong) so that you may be guided aright.
54. And (remember) when Musa (Moses) said to his people: "O my people! Verily, you have wronged yourselves by worshipping the calf. So turn in repentance to your Creator and kill yourselves (the innocent kill the wrongdoers among you), that will be better for you with your Lord." Then He accepted your repentance. Truly, He is the One Who accepts repentance, the Most Merciful.
55. And (remember) when you said: "O Musa (Moses)! We shall never believe in you till we see Allah plainly." But you were seized with a thunderbolt (lightning) while you were looking.
56. Then We raised you up after your death, so that you might be grateful.
57. And We shaded you with clouds and sent down on you Al-Manna and the quails, (saying): "Eat of the good lawful things We have provided for you," (but they rebelled). And they did not wrong Us but they wronged themselves.
58. And (remember) when We said: "Enter this town (Jerusalem) and eat bountifully therein with pleasure and delight wherever you wish, and enter the gate in prostration (or bowing with humility) and say: 'Forgive us,' and We shall forgive you your sins and shall increase (reward) for the good-doers."
59. But those who did wrong changed the word from that which had been told to them for another, so We sent upon the wrong-doers Rijzan (a punishment) from the heaven because of their rebelling against Allah's Obedience. (Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. I, Page 305).
60. And (remember) when Musa (Moses) asked for water for his people, We said: "Strike the stone with your stick." Then gushed forth therefrom twelve springs. Each (group of) people knew its own place for water. "Eat and drink of that which Allah has provided and do not act corruptly, making mischief on the earth."
61. And (remember) when you said, "O Musa (Moses)! We cannot endure one kind of food. So invoke your Lord for us to bring forth for us of what the earth grows, its herbs, its cucumbers, its Fum (wheat or garlic), its lentils and its onions." He said, "Would you exchange that which is better for that which is lower? Go you down to any town and you shall find what you want!" And they were covered with humiliation and misery, and they drew on themselves the Wrath of Allah. That was because they used to disbelieve the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allah and killed the Prophets wrongfully. That was because they disobeyed and used to transgress the bounds (in their disobedience to Allah, i.e. commit crimes and sins).
62. Verily! Those who believe and those who are Jews and Christians, and Sabians, whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and do righteous good deeds shall have their reward with their Lord, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve .
63. And (O Children of Israel, remember) when We took your covenant and We raised above you the Mount (saying): "Hold fast to that which We have given you, and remember that which is therein so that you may become Al-Muttaqun (the pious - see V.2:2).
64. Then after that you turned away. Had it not been for the Grace and Mercy of Allah upon you, indeed you would have been among the losers.
65. And indeed you knew those amongst you who transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath (i.e. Saturday). We said to them: "Be you monkeys, despised and rejected."
66. So We made this punishment an example to their own and to succeeding generations and a lesson to those who are Al-Muttaqun (the pious - see V.2:2).
67. And (remember) when Musa (Moses) said to his people: "Verily, Allah commands you that you slaughter a cow." They said, "Do you make fun of us?" He said, "I take Allah's Refuge from being among Al-Jahilun (the ignorants or the foolish)."
68. They said, "Call upon your Lord for us that He may make plain to us what it is!" He said, "He says, 'Verily, it is a cow neither too old nor too young, but (it is) between the two conditions', so do what you are commanded."
69. They said, "Call upon your Lord for us to make plain to us its colour." He said, "He says, 'It is a yellow cow, bright in its colour, pleasing to the beholders.' "
70. They said, "Call upon your Lord for us to make plain to us what it is. Verily to us all cows are alike, And surely, if Allah wills, we will be guided."
71. He [Musa (Moses)] said, "He says, 'It is a cow neither trained to till the soil nor water the fields, sound, having no other colour except bright yellow.' " They said, "Now you have brought the truth." So they slaughtered it though they were near to not doing it.
72. And (remember) when you killed a man and fell into dispute among yourselves as to the crime. But Allah brought forth that which you were hiding.
73. So We said: "Strike him (the dead man) with a piece of it (the cow)." Thus Allah brings the dead to life and shows you His Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) so that you may understand.
74. Then, after that, your hearts were hardened and became as stones or even worse in hardness. And indeed, there are stones out of which rivers gush forth, and indeed, there are of them (stones) which split asunder so that water flows from them, and indeed, there are of them (stones) which fall down for fear of Allah. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.
75. Do you (faithful believers) covet that they will believe in your religion inspite of the fact that a party of them (Jewish rabbis) used to hear the Word of Allah [the Taurat (Torah)], then they used to change it knowingly after they understood it?
76. And when they (Jews) meet those who believe (Muslims), they say, "We believe", but when they meet one another in private, they say, "Shall you (Jews) tell them (Muslims) what Allah has revealed to you [Jews, about the description and the qualities of Prophet Muhammad Peace be upon him , that which are written in the Taurat (Torah)] , that they (Muslims) may argue with you (Jews) about it before your Lord?" Have you (Jews) then no understanding?
77. Know they (Jews) not that Allah knows what they conceal and what they reveal?
78. And there are among them (Jews) unlettered people, who know not the Book, but they trust upon false desires and they but guess.
79. Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands and then say, "This is from Allah," to purchase with it a little price! Woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for that they earn thereby.
80. And they (Jews) say, "The Fire (i.e. Hell-fire on the Day of Resurrection) shall not touch us but for a few numbered days." Say (O Muhammad Peace be upon him to them): "Have you taken a covenant from Allah, so that Allah will not break His Covenant? Or is it that you say of Allah what you know not?"
81. Yes! Whosoever earns evil and his sin has surrounded him, they are dwellers of the Fire (i.e. Hell); they will dwell therein forever.
82. And those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, they are dwellers of Paradise, they will dwell therein forever.
83. And (remember) when We took a covenant from the Children of Israel, (saying): Worship none but Allah (Alone) and be dutiful and good to parents, and to kindred, and to orphans and Al-Masakin (the poor), [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 10, Page 158 (Verse 9:60)] and speak good to people [i.e. enjoin righteousness and forbid evil, and say the truth about Muhammad Peace be upon him ], and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and give Zakat. Then you slid back, except a few of you, while you are backsliders. (Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 2, Page 392).
84. And (remember) when We took your covenant (saying): Shed not the blood of your people, nor turn out your own people from their dwellings. Then, (this) you ratified and (to this) you bear witness.
85. After this, it is you who kill one another and drive out a party of you from their homes, assist (their enemies) against them, in sin and transgression. And if they come to you as captives, you ransom them, although their expulsion was forbidden to you. Then do you believe in a part of the Scripture and reject the rest? Then what is the recompense of those who do so among you, except disgrace in the life of this world, and on the Day of Resurrection they shall be consigned to the most grievous torment. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.
86. Those are they who have bought the life of this world at the price of the Hereafter. Their torment shall not be lightened nor shall they be helped.
87. And indeed, We gave Musa (Moses) the Book and followed him up with a succession of Messengers. And We gave 'Iesa (Jesus), the son of Maryam (Mary), clear signs and supported him with Ruh-ul-Qudus [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. Is it that whenever there came to you a Messenger with what you yourselves desired not, you grew arrogant? Some, you disbelieved and some, you killed.
88. And they say, "Our hearts are wrapped (i.e. do not hear or understand Allah's Word)." Nay, Allah has cursed them for their disbelief, so little is that which they believe.
89. And when there came to them (the Jews), a Book (this Qur'an) from Allah confirming what is with them [the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)], although aforetime they had invoked Allah (for coming of Muhammad Peace be upon him ) in order to gain victory over those who disbelieved, then when there came to them that which they had recognised, they disbelieved in it. So let the Curse of Allah be on the disbelievers.
90. How bad is that for which they have sold their ownselves, that they should disbelieve in that which Allah has revealed (the Qur'an), grudging that Allah should reveal of His Grace unto whom He will of His slaves. So they have drawn on themselves wrath upon wrath. And for the disbelievers, there is disgracing torment.
91. And when it is said to them (the Jews), "Believe in what Allah has sent down," they say, "We believe in what was sent down to us." And they disbelieve in that which came after it, while it is the truth confirming what is with them. Say (O Muhammad Peace be upon him to them): "Why then have you killed the Prophets of Allah aforetime, if you indeed have been believers?"
92. And indeed Musa (Moses) came to you with clear proofs, yet you worshipped the calf after he left, and you were Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers).
93. And (remember) when We took your covenant and We raised above you the Mount (saying), "Hold firmly to what We have given you and hear (Our Word). They said, "We have heard and disobeyed." And their hearts absorbed (the worship of) the calf because of their disbelief. Say: "Worst indeed is that which your faith enjoins on you if you are believers."
94. Say to (them): "If the home of the Hereafter with Allah is indeed for you specially and not for others, of mankind, then long for death if you are truthful."
95. But they will never long for it because of what their hands have sent before them (i.e. what they have done). And Allah is All-Aware of the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers).
96. And verily, you will find them (the Jews) the greediest of mankind for life and (even greedier) than those who - ascribe partners to Allah (and do not believe in Resurrection - Magians, pagans, and idolaters, etc.). Everyone of them wishes that he could be given a life of a thousand years. But the grant of such life will not save him even a little from (due) punishment. And Allah is All-Seer of what they do.

Suratul ‘Araaf (103-178)

103. Then after them We sent Musa (Moses) with Our Signs to Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs, but they wrongfully rejected them. So see how was the end of the Mufsidun (mischief-makers, corrupts, etc.).
104. And Musa (Moses) said: "O Fir'aun (Pharaoh)! I am a Messenger from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).
105. "Proper it is for me that I say nothing concerning Allah but the truth. Indeed I have come unto you from your Lord with a clear proof. So let the Children of Israel depart along with me."
106. [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said: "If you have come with a sign, show it forth, - if you are one of those who tell the truth."
107. Then [Musa (Moses)] threw his stick and behold! it was a serpent, manifest!
108. And he drew out his hand, and behold! it was white (with radiance) for the beholders.
109. The chiefs of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer;
110. "He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?"
111. They said: "Put him and his brother off (for a time), and send callers (men) to the cities to collect (and) -
112. "That they bring up to you all well-versed sorcerers."
113. And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors."
114. He said: "Yes, and moreover you will (in that case) be of the nearest (to me)."
115. They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?"
116. He [Musa (Moses)] said: "Throw you (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them, and they displayed a great magic.
117. And We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Throw your stick," and behold! It swallowed up straight away all the falsehoods which they showed.
118. Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect.
119. So they were defeated there and then, and were returned disgraced.
120. And the sorcerers fell down prostrate.
121. They said: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).
122. "The Lord of Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)."
123. Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "You have believed in him [Musa (Moses)] before I give you permission. Surely, this is a plot which you have plotted in the city to drive out its people, but you shall come to know.
124. "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all."
125. They said: "Verily, we are returning to our Lord.
126. "And you take vengeance on us only because we believed in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims."
127. The chiefs of Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people said: "Will you leave Musa (Moses) and his people to spread mischief in the land, and to abandon you and your gods?" He said: "We will kill their sons, and let live their women, and we have indeed irresistible power over them."
128. Musa (Moses) said to his people: "Seek help in Allah and be patient. Verily, the earth is Allah's. He gives it as a heritage to whom He will of His slaves, and the (blessed) end is for the Muttaqun (pious - see V.2:2)."
129. They said: "We (Children of Israel) had suffered troubles before you came to us, and since you have come to us." He said: "It may be that your Lord will destroy your enemy and make you successors on the earth, so that He may see how you act?"
130. And indeed We punished the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) with years of drought and shortness of fruits (crops, etc.), that they might remember (take heed).
131. But whenever good came to them, they said: "Ours is this." And if evil afflicted them, they ascribed it to evil omens connected with Musa (Moses) and those with him. Be informed! Verily, their evil omens are with Allah but most of them know not.
132. They said [to Musa (Moses)]: "Whatever Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) you may bring to us, to work therewith your sorcery on us, we shall never believe in you."
133. So We sent on them: the flood, the locusts, the lice, the frogs, and the blood: (as a succession of) manifest signs, yet they remained arrogant, and they were of those people who were Mujrimun (criminals, polytheists, sinners, etc.).
134. And when the punishment fell on them they said: "O Musa (Moses)! Invoke your Lord for us because of His Promise to you. If you will remove the punishment from us, we indeed shall believe in you, and we shall let the Children of Israel go with you."
135. But when We removed the punishment from them to a fixed term, which they had to reach, behold! They broke their word!
136. So We took retribution from them. We drowned them in the sea, because they belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and were heedless about them.
137. And We made the people who were considered weak to inherit the eastern parts of the land and the western parts thereof which We have blessed. And the fair Word of your Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel, because of their endurance. And We destroyed completely all the great works and buildings which Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his people erected.
138. And We brought the Children of Israel (with safety) across the sea, and they came upon a people devoted to some of their idols (in worship). They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Make for us an ilahan (a god) as they have aliha (gods)." He said: "Verily, you are a people who know not (the Majesty and Greatness of Allah and what is obligatory upon you, i.e. to worship none but Allah Alone, the One and the Only God of all that exists)."
139. [Musa (Moses) added:] "Verily, these people will be destroyed for that which they are engaged in (idols-worship). And all that they are doing is in vain."
140. He said: "Shall I seek for you an Ilahan (a God) other than Allah, while He has given you superiority over the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns of your time)."
141. And (remember) when We rescued you from Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, who were afflicting you with the worst torment, killing your sons and letting your women live. And in that was a great trial from your Lord.
142. And We appointed for Musa (Moses) thirty nights and added (to the period) ten (more), and he completed the term, appointed by his Lord, of forty nights. And Musa (Moses) said to his brother Harun (Aaron): "Replace me among my people, act in the Right Way (by ordering the people to obey Allah and to worship Him Alone) and follow not the way of the Mufsidun (mischief-makers)."
143. And when Musa (Moses) came at the time and place appointed by Us, and his Lord spoke to him, he said: "O my Lord! Show me (Yourself), that I may look upon You." Allah said: "You cannot see Me, but look upon the mountain if it stands still in its place then you shall see Me." So when his Lord appeared to the mountain , He made it collapse to dust, and Musa (Moses) fell down unconscious. Then when he recovered his senses he said: "Glory be to You, I turn to You in repentance and I am the first of the believers."
144. (Allah) said: "O Musa (Moses) I have chosen you above men by My Messages, and by My speaking (to you). So hold that which I have given you and be of the grateful."
145. And We wrote for him on the Tablets the lesson to be drawn from all things and the explanation of all things (and said): Hold unto these with firmness, and enjoin your people to take the better therein. I shall show you the home of Al-Fasiqun (the rebellious, disobedient to Allah).
146. I shall turn away from My Ayat (verses of the Qur'an) those who behave arrogantly on the earth, without a right, and (even) if they see all the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they will not believe in them. And if they see the way of righteousness (monotheism, piety, and good deeds), they will not adopt it as the Way, but if they see the way of error (polytheism, crimes and evil deeds), they will adopt that way, that is because they have rejected Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and were heedless (to learn a lesson) from them.
147. Those who deny Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and the Meeting in the Hereafter (Day of Resurrection,), vain are their deeds. Do they expect to be rewarded with anything except what they used to do?
148. And the people of Musa (Moses) made in his absence, out of their ornaments, the image of a calf (for worship). It had a sound (as if it was mooing). Did they not see that it could neither speak to them nor guide them to the way? They took it for worship and they were Zalimun (wrong-doers).
149. And when they regretted and saw that they had gone astray, they (repented and) said: "If our Lord have not mercy upon us and forgive us, we shall certainly be of the losers."
150. And when Musa (Moses) returned to his people, angry and grieved, he said: "What an evil thing is that which you have done (i.e. worshipping the calf) during my absence. Did you hasten and go ahead as regards the matter of your Lord (you left His worship)?" And he threw down the Tablets and seized his brother by (the hair of) his head and dragged him towards him. Harun (Aaron) said: "O son of my mother! Indeed the people judged me weak and were about to kill me, so make not the enemies rejoice over me, nor put me amongst the people who are Zalimun (wrong-doers)."
151. Musa (Moses) said: "O my Lord! Forgive me and my brother, and make us enter into Your Mercy, for you are the Most Merciful of those who show mercy."
152. Certainly, those who took the calf (for worship), wrath from their Lord and humiliation will come upon them in the life of this world. Thus do We recompense those who invent lies.
153. But those who committed evil deeds and then repented afterwards and believed, verily, your Lord after (all) that is indeed Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
154. And when the anger of Musa (Moses) was appeased, he took up the Tablets, and in their inscription was guidance and mercy for those who fear their Lord.
155. And Musa (Moses) chose out of his people seventy (of the best) men for Our appointed time and place of meeting, and when they were seized with a violent earthquake, he said: "O my Lord, if it had been Your Will, You could have destroyed them and me before; would You destroy us for the deeds of the foolish ones among us? It is only Your Trial by which You lead astray whom You will, and keep guided whom You will. You are our Wali (Protector), so forgive us and have Mercy on us, for You are the Best of those who forgive.
156. And ordain for us good in this world, and in the Hereafter. Certainly we have turned unto You." He said: (As to) My Punishment I afflict therewith whom I will and My Mercy embraces all things. That (Mercy) I shall ordain for those who are the Muttaqun (pious - see V.2:2), and give Zakat; and those who believe in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs and revelations, etc.);
157. Those who follow the Messenger, the Prophet who can neither read nor write (i.e.Muhammad http://www.noblequran.com/translation/images/saws.gif) whom they find written with them in the Taurat (Torah) (Deut, xviii, 15) and the Injeel (Gospel) (John xiv, 16) , - he commands them for Al-Ma'ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam has ordained); and forbids them from Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief, polytheism of all kinds, and all that Islam has forbidden); he allows them as lawful At-Taiyibat [(i.e. all good and lawful) as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods, etc.], and prohibits them as unlawful Al-Khaba'ith (i.e. all evil and unlawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods, etc.), he releases them from their heavy burdens (of Allah's Covenant), and from the fetters (bindings) that were upon them. So those who believe in him (Muhammad http://www.noblequran.com/translation/images/saws.gif), honour him, help him, and follow the light (the Qur'an) which has been sent down with him, it is they who will be successful .
158. Say (O Muhammad http://www.noblequran.com/translation/images/saws.gif): "O mankind! Verily, I am sent to you all as the Messenger of Allah - to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He); It is He Who gives life and causes death. So believe in Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad http://www.noblequran.com/translation/images/saws.gif), the Prophet who can neither read nor write (i.e. Muhammad http://www.noblequran.com/translation/images/saws.gif) who believes in Allah and His Words [(this Qur'an), the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel) and also Allah's Word: "Be!" - and he was, i.e. 'Iesa (Jesus) son of Maryam (Mary),], and follow him so that you may be guided. "
159. And of the people of Musa (Moses) there is a community who lead (the men) with truth and establish justice therewith (i.e. judge men with truth and justice).
160. And We divided them into twelve tribes (as distinct) nations. We directed Musa (Moses) by inspiration, when his people asked him for water, (saying): "Strike the stone with your stick", and there gushed forth out of it twelve springs: each group knew its own place for water. We shaded them with the clouds and sent down upon them Al-Manna and the quails (saying): "Eat of the good things with which We have provided you." They harmed Us not but they used to harm themselves.
161. And (remember) when it was said to them: "Dwell in this town (Jerusalem) and eat therefrom wherever you wish, and say, '(O Allah) forgive our sins'; and enter the gate prostrate (bowing with humility). We shall forgive you your wrong-doings. We shall increase (the reward) for the good-doers."
162. But those among them who did wrong changed the word that had been told to them. So We sent on them a torment from heaven in return for their wrong-doings.
163. And ask them (O Muhammad http://www.noblequran.com/translation/images/saws.gif) about the town that was by the sea, when they transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath (i.e. Saturday): when their fish came to them openly on the Sabbath day, and did not come to them on the day they had no Sabbath. Thus We made a trial of them for they used to rebel (see the Qur'an: V.4:154).
164. And when a community among them said: "Why do you preach to a people whom Allah is about to destroy or to punish with a severe torment?" (The preachers) said: "In order to be free from guilt before your Lord (Allah), and perhaps they may fear Allah."
165. So when they forgot the remindings that had been given to them, We rescued those who forbade evil, but We seized those who did wrong with a severe torment because they used to rebel (disobey Allah).
166. So when they exceeded the limits of what they were prohibited, We said to them: "Be you monkeys, despised and rejected." (It is a severe warning to the mankind that they should not disobey what Allah commands them to do, and be far away from what He prohibits them).
167. And (remember) when your Lord declared that He would certainly keep on sending against them (i.e. the Jews), till the Day of Resurrection, those who would afflict them with a humiliating torment. Verily, your Lord is Quick in Retribution (for the disobedient, wicked) and certainly He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful (for the obedient and those who beg Allah's Forgiveness).
168. And We have broken them (i.e. the Jews) up into various separate groups on the earth, some of them are righteous and some are away from that. And We tried them with good (blessings) and evil (calamities) in order that they might turn (to Allah's Obedience).
169. Then after them succeeded an (evil) generation, which inherited the Book, but they chose (for themselves) the goods of this low life (evil pleasures of this world) saying (as an excuse): "(Everything) will be forgiven to us." And if (again) the offer of the like (evil pleasures of this world) came their way, they would (again) seize them (would commit those sins). Was not the covenant of the Book taken from them that they would not say about Allah anything but the truth? And they have studied what is in it (the Book). And the home of the Hereafter is better for those who are Al-Muttaqun (the pious - see V.2:2)Do not you then understand?
170. And as to those who hold fast to the Book (i.e. act on its teachings) and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), certainly, We shall never waste the reward of those who do righteous deeds.
171. And (remember) when We raised the mountain over them as if it had been a canopy, and they thought that it was going to fall on them. (We said): "Hold firmly to what We have given you [i.e. the Taurat (Torah)], and remember that which is therein (act on its commandments), so that you may fear Allah and obey Him."
172. And (remember) when your Lord brought forth from the Children of Adam, from their loins, their seed (or from Adam's loin his offspring) and made them testify as to themselves (saying): "Am I not your Lord?" They said: "Yes! We testify," lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection: "Verily, we have been unaware of this."
173. Or lest you should say: "It was only our fathers afortime who took others as partners in worship along with Allah, and we were (merely their) descendants after them; will You then destroy us because of the deeds of men who practised Al-Batil (i.e. polytheism and committing crimes and sins, invoking and worshipping others besides Allah)?" (Tafsir At-Tabari).
174. Thus do We explain the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) in detail, so that they may turn (unto the truth).
175. And recite (O Muhammad http://www.noblequran.com/translation/images/saws.gif) to them the story of him to whom We gave Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), but he threw them away, so Shaitan (Satan) followed him up, and he became of those who went astray.
176. And had We willed, We would surely have elevated him therewith but he clung to the earth and followed his own vain desire. So his description is the description of a dog: if you drive him away, he lolls his tongue out, or if you leave him alone, he (still) lolls his tongue out. Such is the description of the people who reject Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). So relate the stories, perhaps they may reflect.
177. Evil is the likeness of the people who reject Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses and signs, etc.), and used to wrong their ownselves.
178. Whomsoever Allah guides, he is the guided one, and whomsoever He sends astray, those! They are the losers.

Soorah Yoonus 75-93

75. Then after them We sent Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron) to Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). But they behaved arrogantly and were Mujrimun (disbelievers, sinners, polytheists, criminals, etc.) folk.
76. So when came to them the truth from Us, they said: "This is indeed clear magic."
77. Musa (Moses) said: "Say you (this) about the truth when it has come to you? Is this magic? But the magicians will never be successful."
78. They said: "Have you come to us to turn us away from that (Faith) we found our fathers following, - and that you two may have greatness in the land? We are not going to believe you two!"
79. And Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "Bring to me every well-versed sorcerer."
80. And when the sorcerers came, Musa (Moses) said to them: "Cast down what you want to cast!"
81. Then when they had cast down, Musa (Moses) said: "What you have brought is sorcery, Allah will surely make it of no effect. Verily, Allah does not set right the work of Al-Mufsidun (the evil-doers, corrupts, etc.).
82. "And Allah will establish and make apparent the truth by His Words, however much the Mujrimun (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, etc.) may hate it."
83. But none believed in Musa (Moses) except the offspring of his people, because of the fear of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs, lest they should persecute them; and verily, Fir'aun (Pharaoh) was arrogant tyrant on the earth, he was indeed one of the Musrifun (polytheists, sinners and transgressors, those who give up the truth and follow the evil, and commit all kinds of great sins).
84. And Musa (Moses) said: "O my people! If you have believed in Allah, then put your trust in Him if you are Muslims (those who submit to Allah's Will)."
85. They said: "In Allah we put our trust. Our Lord! Make us not a trial for the folk who are Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doing) (i.e. do not make them overpower us).
86. "And save us by Your Mercy from the disbelieving folk."
87. And We inspired Musa (Moses) and his brother (saying): "Take dwellings for your people in Egypt, and make your dwellings as places for your worship, and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and give glad tidings to the believers."
88. And Musa (Moses) said: "Our Lord! You have indeed bestowed on Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs splendour and wealth in the life of this world, our Lord! That they may lead men astray from Your Path. Our Lord! Destroy their wealth, and harden their hearts, so that they will not believe until they see the painful torment."
89. Allah said: "Verily, the invocation of you both is accepted. So you both keep to the Straight Way (i.e. keep on doing good deeds and preaching Allah's Message with patience), and follow not the path of those who know not (the truth i.e. to believe in the Oneness of Allah, and also to believe in the Reward of Allah: Paradise, etc.)."
90. And We took the Children of Israel across the sea, and Fir'aun (Pharaoh) with his hosts followed them in oppression and enmity, till when drowning overtook him, he said: "I believe that La ilaha illa (Huwa): (none has the right to be worshipped but) He," in Whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am one of the Muslims (those who submit to Allah's Will)."
91. Now (you believe) while you refused to believe before and you were one of the Mufsidun (evil-doers, corrupts, etc.).
92. So this day We shall deliver your (dead) body (out from the sea) that you may be a sign to those who come after you! And verily, many among mankind are heedless of Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs , revelations, etc.).
93. And indeed We settled the Children of Israel in an honourable dwelling place (Sham and Misr), and provided them with good things, and they differed not until the knowledge came to them. Verily, Allah will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection in that in which they used to differ.

Soorah Taahaa [20:9-99]

9. And has there come to you the story of Musa (Moses)?
10. When he saw a fire, he said to his family: "Wait! Verily, I have seen a fire, perhaps I can bring you some burning brand therefrom, or find some guidance at the fire."
11. And when he came to it (the fire), he was called by name: "O Musa (Moses)!
12. "Verily! I am your Lord! So take off your shoes, you are in the sacred valley, Tuwa.
13. "And I have chosen you. So listen to that which is inspired to you.
14. "Verily! I am Allah! La ilaha illa Ana (none has the right to be worshipped but I), so worship Me, and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) for My Remembrance.
15. "Verily, the Hour is coming and My Will is to keep it hidden that every person may be rewarded for that which he strives.
16. "Therefore, let not the one who believes not therein (i.e. in the Day of Resurrection, Reckoning, Paradise and Hell, etc.), but follows his own lusts, divert you therefrom, lest you perish.
17. "And what is that in your right hand, O Musa (Moses)?"
18. He said: "This is my stick, whereon I lean, and wherewith I beat down branches for my sheep, and wherein I find other uses."
19. (Allah) said: "Cast it down, O Musa (Moses)!"
20. He cast it down, and behold! It was a snake, moving quickly.
21. Allah said:"Grasp it, and fear not, We shall return it to its former state,
22. "And press your (right) hand to your (left) side, it will come forth white (and shining), without any disease as another sign,
23. "That We may show you (some) of Our Greater Signs.
24. "Go to Fir'aun (Pharaoh)! Verily, he has transgressed (all bounds in disbelief and disobedience, and has behaved as an arrogant, and as a tyrant)."
25. [Musa (Moses)] said: "O my Lord! Open for me my chest (grant me self-confidence, contentment, and boldness).
26. "And ease my task for me;
27. "And make loose the knot (the defect) from my tongue, (i.e. remove the incorrectness from my speech) [That occurred as a result of a brand of fire which Musa (Moses) put in his mouth when he was an infant]. [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 16, Page 159].
28. "That they understand my speech,
29. "And appoint for me a helper from my family,
30. "Harun (Aaron), my brother;
31. "Increase my strength with him,
32. "And let him share my task (of conveying Allah's Message and Prophethood),
33. "That we may glorify You much,
34. "And remember You much,
35. "Verily! You are of us Ever a Well-Seer."
36. Allah said: "You are granted your request, O Musa (Moses)!
37. "And indeed We conferred a favour on you another time (before).
38. "When We inspired your mother with that which We inspired.
39. "Saying: 'Put him (the child) into the Tabut (a box or a case or a chest) and put it into the river (Nile), then the river shall cast it up on the bank, and there, an enemy of Mine and an enemy of his shall take him.' And I endued you with love from Me, in order that you may be brought up under My Eye,
40. "When your sister went and said: 'Shall I show you one who will nurse him?' So We restored you to your mother, that she might cool her eyes and she should not grieve. Then you did kill a man, but We saved you from great distress and tried you with a heavy trial. Then you stayed a number of years with the people of Madyan (Midian). Then you came here according to the fixed term which I ordained (for you), O Musa (Moses)!
41. "And I have Istana'tuka, for Myself.
42. "Go you and your brother with My Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), and do not, you both, slacken and become weak in My Remembrance.
43. "Go, both of you, to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), verily, he has transgressed (all bounds in disbelief and disobedience and behaved as an arrogant and as a tyrant).
44. "And speak to him mildly, perhaps he may accept admonition or fear Allah."
45. They said: "Our Lord! Verily! We fear lest he should hasten to punish us or lest he should transgress (all bounds against us)."
46. He (Allah) said: "Fear not, verily! I am with you both, hearing and seeing.
47. "So go you both to him, and say: 'Verily, we are Messengers of your Lord, so let the Children of Israel go with us, and torment them not; indeed, we have come with a sign from your Lord! And peace will be upon him who follows the guidance!
48. 'Truly, it has been revealed to us that the torment will be for him who denies [believes not in the Oneness of Allah, and in His Messengers, etc.], and turns away.'(from the truth and obedience of Allah)"
49. Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "Who then, O Musa (Moses), is the Lord of you two?"
50. [Musa (Moses)] said: "Our Lord is He Who gave to each thing its form and nature, then guided it aright."
51. [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said: "What about the generations of old?"
52. [Musa (Moses)] said: "The knowledge thereof is with my Lord, in a Record. My Lord is neither unaware nor He forgets, "
53. Who has made earth for you like a bed (spread out); and has opened roads (ways and paths etc.) for you therein; and has sent down water (rain) from the sky. And We have brought forth with it various kinds of vegetation.
54. Eat and pasture your cattle, (therein); verily, in this are proofs and signs for men of understanding.
55. Thereof (the earth) We created you, and into it We shall return you, and from it We shall bring you out once again.
56. And indeed We showed him [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] all Our Signs and Evidences, but he denied and refused.
57. He [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said: "Have you come to drive us out of our land with your magic, O Musa (Moses)?
58. "Then verily, we can produce magic the like thereof; so appoint a meeting between us and you, which neither we, nor you shall fail to keep, in an open wide place where both shall have a just and equal chance (and beholders could witness the competition)."
59. [Musa (Moses)] said: "Your appointed meeting is the day of the festival, and let the people assemble when the sun has risen (forenoon)."
60. So Fir'aun (Pharaoh) withdrew, devised his plot and then came back.
61. Musa (Moses) said to them: "Woe unto you! Invent not a lie against Allah, lest He should destroy you completely by a torment. And surely, he who invents a lie (against Allah) will fail miserably."
62. Then they debated with one another what they must do, and they kept their talk secret.
63. They said: "Verily! These are two magicians. Their object is to drive you out from your land with magic, and overcome your chiefs and nobles.
64. "So devise your plot, and then assemble in line. And whoever overcomes this day will be indeed successful."
65. They said:"O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw first or we be the first to throw?"
66. [Musa (Moses)] said: "Nay, throw you (first)!" Then behold, their ropes and their sticks, by their magic, appeared to him as though they moved fast.
67. So Musa (Moses) conceived a fear in himself.
68. We (Allah) said: "Fear not! Surely, you will have the upper hand.
69. "And throw that which is in your right hand! It will swallow up that which they have made. That which they have made is only a magician's trick, and the magician will never be successful, no matter whatever amount (of skill) he may attain."
70. So the magicians fell down prostrate. They said: "We believe in the Lord of Harun (Aaron) and Musa (Moses)."
71. [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said: "Believe you in him [Musa (Moses)] before I give you permission? Verily! He is your chief who taught you magic. So I will surely cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you on the trunks of date-palms, and you shall surely know which of us [I (Fir'aun - Pharaoh) or the Lord of Musa (Moses) (Allah)] can give the severe and more lasting torment."
72. They said: "We prefer you not over the clear signs that have come to us, and to Him (Allah) Who created us. So decree whatever you desire to decree, for you can only decree (regarding) this life of the world.
73. "Verily! We have believed in our Lord, that He may forgive us our faults, and the magic to which you did compel us. And Allah is better as regards reward in comparison to your [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh)] reward, and more lasting (as regards punishment in comparison to your punishment)."
74. Verily! Whoever comes to his Lord as a Mujrim (criminal, polytheist, disbeliever in the Oneness of Allah and His Messengers, sinner, etc.), then surely, for him is Hell, therein he will neither die nor live.
75. But whoever comes to Him (Allah) as a believer (in the Oneness of Allah, etc.), and has done righteous good deeds, for such are the high ranks (in the Hereafter),
76. 'Adn (Edn) Paradise (everlasting Gardens), under which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever: such is the reward of those who purify themselves [(by abstaining from all kinds of sins and evil deeds) which Allah has forbidden and by doing all that which Allah has ordained)].
77. And indeed We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Travel by night with Ibadi (My slaves) and strike a dry path for them in the sea, fearing neither to be overtaken [by Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] nor being afraid (of drowning in the sea)."
78. Then Fir'aun (Pharaoh) pursued them with his hosts, but the sea-water completely overwhelmed them and covered them up.
79. And Fir'aun (Pharaoh) led his people astray, and he did not guide them.
80. O Children of Israel! We delivered you from your enemy, and We made a covenant with you on the right side of the Mount, and We sent down to you Al-Manna and quails,
81. (Saying) eat of the Taiyibat (good lawful things) wherewith We have provided you, and commit no oppression therein, lest My Anger should justly descend on you. And he on whom My Anger descends, he is indeed perished.
82. And verily, I am indeed Forgiving to him who repents, believes (in My Oneness, and associates none in worship with Me) and does righteous good deeds, and then remains constant in doing them, (till his death).
83. "And what made you hasten from your people, O Musa (Moses)?"
84. He said: "They are close on my footsteps, and I hastened to You, O my Lord, that You might be pleased."
85. (Allah) said: "Verily! We have tried your people in your absence, and As-Samiri has led them astray."
86. Then Musa (Moses) returned to his people in a state of anger and sorrow. He said: "O my people! Did not your Lord promise you a fair promise? Did then the promise seem to you long in coming? Or did you desire that wrath should descend from your Lord on you, so you broke your promise to me (i.e disbelieving in Allah and worshipping the calf)?"
87. They said: "We broke not the promise to you, of our own will, but we were made to carry the weight of the ornaments of the [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh)] people, then we cast them (into the fire), and that was what As-Samiri suggested."
88. Then he took out (of the fire) for them a statue of a calf which seemed to low. They said: "This is your ilah (god), and the ilah (god) of Musa (Moses), but [Musa (Moses)] has forgotten (his god).'"
89. Did they not see that it could not return them a word (for answer), and that it had no power either to harm them or to do them good?
90. And Harun (Aaron) indeed had said to them beforehand: "O my people! You are being tried in this, and verily, your Lord is (Allah) the Most Beneficent, so follow me and obey my order."
91. They said: "We will not stop worshipping it (i.e. the calf), until Musa (Moses) returns to us."
92. [Musa (Moses)] said: "O Harun (Aaron)! What stopped you when you saw them going astray;
93. "That you followed me not (according to my advice to you)? Have you then disobeyed my order?"
94. He [Harun (Aaron)] said: "O son of my mother! Seize (me) not by my beard, nor by my head! Verily, I feared lest you should say: 'You have caused a division among the Children of Israel, and you have not respected my word!' "
95. [Musa (Moses)] said: "And what is the matter with you. O Samiri? (i.e. why did you do so?)"
96. (Samiri) said: "I saw what they saw not, so I took a handful (of dust) from the hoof print of the messenger [Jibrael's (Gabriel) horse] and threw it [into the fire in which were put the ornaments of the Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, or into the calf]. Thus my inner-self suggested to me."
97. Musa (Moses) said: "Then go away! And verily, your (punishment) in this life will be that you will say: "Touch me not (i.e.you will live alone exiled away from mankind); and verily (for a future torment), you have a promise that will not fail. And look at your ilah (god), to which you have been devoted. We will certainly burn it, and scatter its particles in the sea."
98. Your Ilah (God) is only Allah, the One (La ilaha illa Huwa) (none has the right to be worshipped but He). He has full knowledge of all things.
99. Thus We relate to you (O Muhammad http://www.noblequran.com/translation/images/saws.gif) some information of what happened before. And indeed We have given you from Us a Reminder (this Qur'an).

Ash Shu’araa [26:10-68]

10. And (remember) when your Lord called Musa (Moses) (saying): "Go to the people who are Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doing),
11. The people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh). Will they not fear Allah and become righteous?"
12. He said: "My Lord! Verily, I fear that they will belie me,
13. "And my breast straitens, and my tongue expresses not well. So send for Harun (Aaron) (to come along with me).
14. "And they have a charge of crime against me, and I fear they will kill me."
15. Allah said: "Nay! Go you both with Our Signs. Verily! We shall be with you, listening.
16. "And when you both come to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), say: 'We are the Messengers of the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists),
17. "So allow the Children of Israel to go with us.' "
18. [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said [to Musa (Moses)]: "Did we not bring you up among us as a child? And you did dwell many years of your life with us.
19. "And you did your deed, which you did (i.e. the crime of killing a man). And you are one of the ingrates."
20. Musa (Moses) said: "I did it then, when I was an ignorant (as regards my Lord and His Message).
21. "So I fled from you when I feared you. But my Lord has granted me Hukman (i.e. religious knowledge, right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood), and appointed me as one of the Messengers.
22. "And this is the past favour with which you reproach me, that you have enslaved the Children of Israel."
23. Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "And what is the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)?"
24. Musa (Moses) said: "Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, if you seek to be convinced with certainty."
25. Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said to those around: "Do you not hear (what he says)?"
26. Musa (Moses) said: "Your Lord and the Lord of your ancient fathers!"
27. Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "Verily, your Messenger who has been sent to you is a madman!"
28. Musa (Moses) said: "Lord of the east and the west, and all that is between them, if you did but understand!"
29. Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "If you choose an ilah (god) other than me, I will certainly put you among the prisoners."
30. Musa (Moses) said: "Even if I bring you something manifest (and convincing)?"
31. Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "Bring it forth then, if you are of the truthful!"
32. So [Musa (Moses)] threw his stick, and behold, it was a serpent, manifest.
33. And he drew out his hand, and behold, it was white to all beholders!
34. [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said to the chiefs around him: "Verily! This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer.
35. "He wants to drive you out of your land by his sorcery, then what is it your counsel, and what do you command?"
36. They said: "Put him off and his brother (for a while), and send callers to the cities;
37. "To bring up to you every well-versed sorcerer."
38. So the sorcerers were assembled at a fixed time on a day appointed.
39. And it was said to the people: "Are you (too) going to assemble?
40. "That we may follow the sorcerers [who were on Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) religion of disbelief] if they are the winners."
41. So when the sorcerers arrived, they said to Fir'aun (Pharaoh): "Will there surely be a reward for us if we are the winners?"
42. He said: "Yes, and you shall then verily be of those brought near (to myself)."
43. Musa (Moses) said to them: "Throw what you are going to throw!"
44. So they threw their ropes and their sticks, and said: "By the might of Fir'aun (Pharaoh), it is we who will certainly win!"
45. Then Musa (Moses) threw his stick, and behold, it swallowed up all the falsehoods which they showed!
46. And the sorcerers fell down prostrate.
47. Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).
48. "The Lord of Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)."
49. [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said: "You have believed in him before I give you leave. Surely, he indeed is your chief, who has taught you magic! So verily, you shall come to know. Verily, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will crucify you all."
50. They said: "No harm! Surely, to our Lord (Allah) we are to return;
51. "Verily! We really hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins, as we are the first of the believers [in Musa (Moses) and in the Monotheism which he has brought from Allah]."
52. And We inspired Musa (Moses), saying: "Take away My slaves by night, verily, you will be pursued."
53. Then Fir'aun (Pharaoh) sent callers to (all) the cities.
54. (Saying): "Verily! These indeed are but a small band.
55. "And verily, they have done what has enraged us;
56. "But we are host all assembled, amply fore-warned."
57. So, We expelled them from gardens and springs,
58. Treasures, and every kind of honourable place.
59. Thus [We turned them (Pharaoh's people) out] and We caused the Children of Israel to inherit them.
60. So they pursued them at sunrise.
61. And when the two hosts saw each other, the companions of Musa (Moses) said: "We are sure to be overtaken."
62. [Musa (Moses)] said: "Nay, verily! With me is my Lord, He will guide me."
63. Then We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Strike the sea with your stick." And it parted, and each separate part (of that sea water) became like the huge, firm mass of a mountain.
64. Then We brought near the others [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) party] to that place.
65. And We saved Musa (Moses) and all those with him.
66. Then We drowned the others.
67. Verily! In this is indeed a sign (or a proof), yet most of them are not believers.
68. And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.

An Naml [27:7-14]

7. (Remember) when Musa (Moses) said to his household: "Verily! I have seen a fire, I will bring you from there some information, or I will bring you a burning brand, that you may warm yourselves."
8. But when he came to it, he was called: "Blessed is whosoever is in the fire, and whosoever is round about it! And glorified be Allah, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).
9. "O Musa (Moses)! Verily! It is I, Allah, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
10. "And throw down your stick!" But when he saw it moving as if it were a snake, he turned in flight, and did not look back. (It was said): "O Musa (Moses)! Fear not, verily! The Messengers fear not in front of Me.
11. "Except him who has done wrong and afterwards has changed evil for good, then surely, I am Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
12. "And put your hand into your bosom, it will come forth white without hurt. (These are) among the nine signs (you will take) to Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his people, they are a people who are the Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).
13. But when Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) came to them, clear to see, they said: "This is a manifest magic."
14. And they belied them (those Ayat) wrongfully and arrogantly, though their ownselves were convinced thereof [i.e. those (Ayat) are from Allah, and Musa (Moses) is the Messenger of Allah in truth, but they disliked to obey Musa (Moses), and hated to believe in his Message of Monotheism]. So see what was the end of the Mufsidun (disbelievers, disobedient to Allah, evil-doers, liars.).

Al Qasas [28:3-84]

3. We recite to you some of the news of Musa (Moses) and Fir'aun (Pharaoh) in truth, for a people who believe (those who believe in this Qur'an, and in the Oneness of Allah).
4. Verily, Fir'aun (Pharaoh) exalted himself in the land and made its people sects, weakening (oppressing) a group (i.e. Children of Israel) among them, killing their sons, and letting their females live. Verily, he was of the Mufsidun (i.e. those who commit great sins and crimes, oppressors, tyrants, etc.).
5. And We wished to do a favour to those who were weak (and oppressed) in the land, and to make them rulers and to make them the inheritors,
6. And to establish them in the land, and We let Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and Haman and their hosts receive from them that which they feared.
7. And We inspired the mother of Musa (Moses), (saying): "Suckle him [Musa (Moses)], but when you fear for him, then cast him into the river and fear not, nor grieve. Verily! We shall bring him back to you, and shall make him one of (Our) Messengers."
8. Then the household of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) picked him up, that he might become for them an enemy and a (cause of) grief. Verily! Fir'aun (Pharaoh), Haman and their hosts were sinners.
9. And the wife of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "A comfort of the eye for me and for you. Kill him not, perhaps he may be of benefit to us, or we may adopt him as a son." And they perceive not (the result of that).
10. And the heart of the mother of Musa (Moses) became empty [from every thought, except the thought of Musa (Moses)]. She was very near to disclose his (case, i.e. the child is her son), had We not strengthened her heart (with Faith), so that she might remain as one of the believers.
11. And she said to his [Musa's (Moses)] sister: "Follow him." So she (his sister) watched him from a far place secretly, while they perceived not.
12. And We had already forbidden (other) foster suckling mothers for him, until she (his sister came up and) said: "Shall I direct you to a household who will rear him for you, and sincerely they will look after him in a good manner?"
13. So did We restore him to his mother, that she might be delighted, and that she might not grieve, and that she might know that the Promise of Allah is true. But most of them know not.
14. And when he attained his full strength, and was perfect (in manhood), We bestowed on him Hukman (Prophethood, right judgement of the affairs) and religious knowledge [of the religion of his forefathers i.e. Islamic Monotheism]. And thus do We reward the Muhsinun (i.e. good doers - see the footnote of V.9:120).
15. And he entered the city at a time of unawareness of its people, and he found there two men fighting, - one of his party (his religion - from the Children of Israel), and the other of his foes. The man of his (own) party asked him for help against his foe, so Musa (Moses) struck him with his fist and killed him. He said: "This is of Shaitan's (Satan) doing, verily, he is a plain misleading enemy."
16. He said: "My Lord! Verily, I have wronged myself, so forgive me." Then He forgave him. Verily, He is the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.
17. He said: "My Lord! For that with which You have favoured me, I will never more be a helper for the Mujrimun (criminals, disobedient to Allah, polytheists, sinners, etc.)!"
18. So he became afraid, looking about in the city (waiting as to what will be the result of his crime of killing), when behold, the man who had sought his help the day before, called for his help (again). Musa (Moses) said to him: "Verily, you are a plain misleader!"
19. Then when he decided to seize the man who was an enemy to both of them, the man said: "O Musa (Moses)! Is it your intention to kill me as you killed a man yesterday? Your aim is nothing but to become a tyrant in the land, and not to be one of those who do right."
20. And there came a man running, from the farthest end of the city. He said: "O Musa (Moses)! Verily, the chiefs are taking counsel together about you, to kill you, so escape.Truly, I am to you of those who give sincere advice."
21. So he escaped from there, looking about in a state of fear. He said: "My Lord! Save me from the people who are Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers)!"
22. And when he went towards (the land of) Madyan (Midian) he said: "It may be that my Lord guides me to the Right Way."
23. And when he arrived at the water of Madyan (Midian) he found there a group of men watering (their flocks), and besides them he found two women who were keeping back (their flocks). He said: "What is the matter with you?" They said: "We cannot water (our flocks) until the shepherds take (their flocks). And our father is a very old man."
24. So he watered (their flocks) for them, then he turned back to shade, and said: "My Lord! Truly, I am in need of whatever good that You bestow on me!"
25. Then there came to him one of the two women, walking shyly. She said: "Verily, my father calls you that he may reward you for having watered (our flocks) for us." So when he came to him and narrated the story, he said: "Fear you not. You have escaped from the people who are Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers, and wrong-doers)."
26. And said one of them (the two women): "O my father! Hire him! Verily, the best of men for you to hire is the strong, the trustworthy."
27. He said: "I intend to wed one of these two daughters of mine to you, on condition that you serve me for eight years, but if you complete ten years, it will be (a favour) from you. But I intend not to place you under a difficulty. If Allah will, you will find me one of the righteous."
28. He [Musa (Moses)] said: "That (is settled) between me and you whichever of the two terms I fulfill, there will be no injustice to me, and Allah is Surety over what we say."
29. Then, when Musa (Moses) had fulfilled the term, and was travelling with his family, he saw a fire in the direction of Tur (Mount). He said to his family: "Wait, I have seen a fire; perhaps I may bring to you from there some information, or a burning fire-brand that you may warm yourselves."
30. So when he reached it (the fire), he was called from the right side of the valley, in the blessed place from the tree: "O Musa (Moses)! Verily! I am Allah, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)!
31. "And throw your stick!" But when he saw it moving as if it were a snake, he turned in flight, and looked not back. (It was said): "O Musa (Moses)! Draw near, and fear not. Verily, you are of those who are secure.
32. "Put your hand in your bosom, it will come forth white without a disease, and draw your hand close to your side to be free from fear (that which you suffered from the snake, and also by that your hand will return to its original state). these are two Burhan (signs, miracles, evidences, proofs) from your Lord to Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs. Verily, they are the people who are Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).
33. He said: "My Lord! I have killed a man among them, and I fear that they will kill me.
34. "And my brother Harun (Aaron) he is more eloquent in speech than me so send him with me as a helper to confirm me. Verily! I fear that they will belie me."
35. Allah said: "We will strengthen your arm through your brother, and give you both power, so they shall not be able to harm you, with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), you two as well as those who follow you will be the victors."
36. Then when Musa (Moses) came to them with Our Clear Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they said: "This is nothing but invented magic. Never did we hear of this among our fathers of old."
37. Musa (Moses) said: "My Lord knows best him who came with guidance from Him, and whose will be the happy end in the Hereafter. Verily, the Zalimun (wrong-doers, polytheists and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah) will not be successful."
38. Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "O chiefs! I know not that you have an ilah (a god) other than me, so kindle for me (a fire), O Haman, to bake (bricks out of) clay, and set up for me a Sarhan (a lofty tower, or palace, etc.) in order that I may look at (or look for) the Ilah (God) of Musa (Moses); and verily, I think that he [Musa (Moses)] is one of the liars."
39. And he and his hosts were arrogant in the land, without right, and they thought that they would never return to Us.
40. So We seized him and his hosts, and We threw them all into the sea (and drowned them). So behold (O Muhammad http://www.noblequran.com/translation/images/saws.gif) what was the end of the Zalimun [wrong-doers, polytheists and those who disbelieved in the Oneness of their Lord (Allah), or rejected the advice of His Messenger Musa (Moses)].
41. And We made them leaders inviting to the Fire, and on the Day of Resurrection, they will not be helped.
42. And We made a curse to follow them in this world, and on the Day of Resurrection, they will be among Al-Maqbuhun (those who are prevented to receive Allah's Mercy or any good, despised or destroyed, etc.).
43. And indeed We gave Musa (Moses), after We had destroyed the generations of old, the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah)] as an enlightenment for mankind, and a guidance and a mercy, that they might remember (or receive admonition).
44. And you (O Muhammad http://www.noblequran.com/translation/images/saws.gif) were not on the western side (of the Mount), when We made clear to Musa (Moses) the commandment, and you were not among those present.
45. But We created generations [after generations i.e. after Musa (Moses)], and long were the ages that passed over them. And you (O Muhammad http://www.noblequran.com/translation/images/saws.gif) were not a dweller among the people of Madyan (Midian), reciting Our Verses to them. But it is We Who kept sending (Messengers).
46. And you (O Muhammad http://www.noblequran.com/translation/images/saws.gif) were not at the side of the Tur (Mount) when We did call, [it is said that Allah called the followers of Muhammad http://www.noblequran.com/translation/images/saws.gif, and they answered His Call, or that Allah called Musa (Moses)]. But (you are sent) as a mercy from your Lord, to give warning to a people to whom no warner had come before you, in order that they may remember or receive admonition. [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 20, Page 81].
47. And if (We had) not (sent you to the people of Makkah) in case a calamity should seize them for (the deeds) that their hands have sent forth, they should have said: "Our Lord! Why did You not send us a Messenger? We should then have followed Your Ayat (Verses of the Qur'an) and should have been among the believers."
48. But when the truth (i.e. Muhammad http://www.noblequran.com/translation/images/saws.gifwith his Message) has come to them from Us, they say: "Why is he not given the like of what was given to Musa (Moses)? Did they not disbelieve in that which was given to Musa (Moses) of old? They say: "Two kinds of magic [the Taurat (Torah) and the Qur'an] each helping the other!" And they say: "Verily! In both we are disbelievers."
49. Say (to them, O Muhammad http://www.noblequran.com/translation/images/saws.gif): "Then bring a Book from Allah, which is a better guide than these two [the Taurat (Torah) and the Qur'an], that I may follow it, if you are truthful."
50. But if they answer you not (i.e. do not believe in your doctrine of Islamic Monotheism, nor follow you), then know that they only follow their own lusts. And who is more astray than one who follows his own lusts, without guidance from Allah? Verily! Allah guides not the people who are Zalimun (wrong-doers, disobedient to Allah, and polytheists).
51. And indeed now We have conveyed the Word (this Qur'an in which is the news of everything to them), in order that they may remember (or receive admonition).
52. Those to whom We gave the Scripture [i.e. the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel), etc.] before it, - they believe in it (the Qur'an).
53. And when it is recited to them, they say: "We believe in it. Verily, it is the truth from our Lord. Indeed even before it we have been from those who submit themselves to Allah in Islam as Muslims (like 'Abdullah bin Salam and Salman Al-Farisi, etc.).
54. These will be given their reward twice over, because they are patient, and repel evil with good, and spend (in charity) out of what We have provided them.
55. And when they hear Al-Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk), they withdraw from it and say: "To us our deeds, and to you your deeds. Peace be to you. We seek not the ignorant."
56. Verily! You (O Muhammad http://www.noblequran.com/translation/images/saws.gif) guide not whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He knows best those who are the guided.
57. And they say: "If we follow the guidance with you, we would be snatched away from our land." Have We not established for them a secure sanctuary (Makkah), to which are brought fruits of all kinds, a provision from Ourselves, but most of them know not.
58. And how many a town (population) have We destroyed, which were thankless for its means of livelihood (disobeyed Allah, and His Messengers, by doing evil deeds and crimes) ! And those are their dwellings, which have not been inhabited after them except a little. And verily! We have been the inheritors.
59. And never will your Lord destroy the towns (populations) until He sends to their mother town a Messenger reciting to them Our Verses. And never would We destroy the towns unless the people thereof are Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, oppressors and tyrants).
60. And whatever you have been given is an enjoyment of the life of (this) world and its adornment, and that (Hereafter) which is with Allah is better and will remain forever. Have you then no sense?
61. Is he whom We have promised an excellent promise (Paradise), which he will find true, like him whom We have made to enjoy the luxuries of the life of (this) world, then on the Day of Resurrection, he will be among those brought up (to be punished in the Hell-fire)?
62. And (remember) the Day when He will call to them, and say: "Where are My (so-called) partners whom you used to assert?"
63. Those about whom the Word will have come true (to be punished) will say: "Our Lord! These are they whom we led astray. We led them astray, as we were astray ourselves. We declare our innocence (from them) before You. It was not us they worshipped."
64. And it will be said (to them): "Call upon your (so-called) partners (of Allah), and they will call upon them, but they will give no answer to them, and they will see the torment. (They will then wish) if only they had been guided!
65. And (remember) the Day (Allah) will call to them, and say: "What answer gave you to the Messengers?"
66. Then the news of a good answer will be obscured to them on that day, and they will not be able to ask one another.
67. But as for him who repented (from polytheism and sins, etc.), believed (in the Oneness of Allah, and in His Messenger Muhammad http://www.noblequran.com/translation/images/saws.gif), and did righteous deeds (in the life of this world), then he will be among those who are successful.
68. And your Lord creates whatsoever He wills and chooses, no choice have they (in any matter). Glorified be Allah, and exalted above all that they associate as partners (with Him).
69. And your Lord knows what their breasts conceal, and what they reveal.
70. And He is Allah; La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). His is all praise, in the first (i.e. in this world) and in the last (i.e.in the Hereafter). And for Him is the Decision, and to Him shall you (all) be returned.
71. Say (O Muhammad http://www.noblequran.com/translation/images/saws.gif): "Tell me! If Allah made night continuous for you till the Day of Resurrection, who is an ilah (a god) besides Allah who could bring you light? Will you not then hear?"
72. Say (O Muhammad http://www.noblequran.com/translation/images/saws.gif): "Tell me! If Allah made day continuous for you till the Day of Resurrection, who is an ilah (a god) besides Allah who could bring you night wherein you rest? Will you not then see?"
73. It is out of His Mercy that He has put for you night and day, that you may rest therein (i.e. during the night) and that you may seek of His Bounty (i.e. during the day), and in order that you may be grateful.
74. And (remember) the Day when He (your Lord Allah) will call them (those who worshipped others along with Allah), and will say: "Where are My (so-called) partners, whom you used to assert?"
75. And We shall take out from every nation a witness, and We shall say: "Bring your proof." Then they shall know that the truth is with Allah (Alone), and the lies (false gods) which they invented will disappear from them.
76. Verily, Qarun (Korah) was of Musa's (Moses) people, but he behaved arrogantly towards them. And We gave him of the treasures, that of which the keys would have been a burden to a body of strong men. When his people said to him: "Do not be glad (with ungratefulness to Allah's Favours). Verily! Allah likes not those who are glad (with ungratefulness to Allah's Favours).
77. But seek, with that (wealth) which Allah has bestowed on you, the home of the Hereafter, and forget not your portion of legal enjoyment in this world, and do good as Allah has been good to you, and seek not mischief in the land. Verily, Allah likes not the Mufsidun (those who commit great crimes and sins, oppressors, tyrants, mischief-makers, corrupts).
78. He said: "This has been given to me only because of knowledge I possess." Did he not know that Allah had destroyed before him generations, men who were stronger than him in might and greater in the amount (of riches) they had collected. But the Mujrimun (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, etc.) will not be questioned of their sins (because Allah knows them well, so they will be punished without account).
79. So he went forth before his people in his pomp. Those who were desirous of the life of the world, said: "Ah, would that we had the like of what Qarun (Korah) has been given? Verily! He is the owner of a great fortune."
80. But those who had been given (religious) knowledge said: "Woe to you! The Reward of Allah (in the Hereafter) is better for those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and this none shall attain except those who are patient (in following the truth)."
81. So We caused the earth to swallow him and his dwelling place. Then he had no group or party to help him against Allah, nor was he one of those who could save themselves.
82. And those who had desired (for a position like) his position the day before, began to say: "Know you not that it is Allah Who enlarges the provision or restricts it to whomsoever He pleases of His slaves. Had it not been that Allah was Gracious to us, He could have caused the earth to swallow us up (also)! Know you not that the disbelievers will never be successful.
83. That home of the Hereafter (i.e. Paradise), We shall assign to those who rebel not against the truth with pride and oppression in the land nor do mischief by committing crimes. And the good end is for the Muttaqun (pious - see V.2:2).
84. Whosoever brings good (Islamic Monotheism along with righteous deeds), he shall have the better thereof, and whosoever brings evil (polytheism along with evil deeds) then, those who do evil deeds will only be requited for what they used to do.

Ghaafir [40:23-54]

23. And indeed We sent Musa (Moses) with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), and a manifest authority,
24. To Fir'aun (Pharaoh), Haman and Qarun (Korah), but they called (him): "A sorcerer, a liar!"
25. Then, when he brought them the Truth from Us, they said: "Kill the sons of those who believe with him and let their women live", but the plots of disbelievers are nothing but errors!
26. Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "Leave me to kill Musa (Moses), and let him call his Lord (to stop me from killing him)! I fear that he may change your religion, or that he may cause mischief to appear in the land!"
27. Musa (Moses) said: "Verily, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord from every arrogant who believes not in the Day of Reckoning!"
28. And a believing man of Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) family, who hid his faith said: "Would you kill a man because he says: My Lord is Allah, and he has come to you with clear signs (proofs) from your Lord? And if he is a liar, upon him will be (the sin of) his lie; but if he is telling the truth, then some of that (calamity) wherewith he threatens you will befall on you." Verily, Allah guides not one who is a Musrif (a polytheist, or a murderer who shed blood without a right, or those who commit great sins, oppressor, transgressor), a liar!
29. "O my people! Yours is the kingdom this day, you are uppermost in the land. But who will save us from the Torment of Allah, should it befall us?" Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "I show you only that which I see (correct), and I guide you only to the path of right policy!"
30. And he who believed said: "O my people! Verily, I fear for you a fate like that day (of disaster) of the Confederates (of old)!
31. "Like the fate of the people of Nuh (Noah), and 'Ad, and Thamud and those who came after them. And Allah wills no injustice for (His) slaves.
32. "And, O my people! Verily! I fear for you the Day when there will be mutual calling (between the people of Hell and of Paradise)."
33. A Day when you will turn your backs and flee having no protector from Allah, And whomsoever Allah sends astray, for him there is no guide.
34. And indeed Yusuf (Joseph) did come to you, in times gone by, with clear signs, but you ceased not to doubt in that which he did bring to you, till when he died you said: "No Messenger will Allah send after him." Thus Allah leaves astray him who is a Musrif (a polytheist, oppressor, a criminal, sinner who commit great sins) and a Murtab (one who doubts Allah's Warning and His Oneness).
35. Those who dispute about the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allah, without any authority that has come to them, it is greatly hateful and disgusting to Allah and to those who believe. Thus does Allah seal up the heart of every arrogant, tyrant. (So they cannot guide themselves to the Right Path).
36. And Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "O Haman! Build me a tower that I may arrive at the ways,
37. "The ways of the heavens, and I may look upon the Ilah (God) of Musa (Moses) but verily, I think him to be a liar." Thus it was made fair-seeming, in Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) eyes, the evil of his deeds, and he was hindered from the (Right) Path, and the plot of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) led to nothing but loss and destruction (for him).
38. And the man who believed said: "O my people! Follow me, I will guide you to the way of right conduct [i.e. guide you to Allah's religion of Islamic Monotheism with which Musa (Moses) has been sent].
39. "O my people! Truly, this life of the world is nothing but a (quick passing) enjoyment, and verily, the Hereafter that is the home that will remain forever."
40. "Whosoever does an evil deed, will not be requited except the like thereof, and whosoever does a righteous deed, whether male or female and is a true believer (in the Oneness of Allah), such will enter Paradise, where they will be provided therein (with all things in abundance) without limit.
41. "And O my people! How is it that I call you to salvation while you call me to the Fire!
42. "You invite me to disbelieve in Allah (and in His Oneness), and to join partners in worship with Him; of which I have no knowledge, and I invite you to the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving!
43. "No doubt you call me to (worship) one who cannot grant (me) my request (or respond to my invocation) in this world or in the Hereafter. And our return will be to Allah, and Al-Musrifun (i.e. polytheists and arrogants, those who commit great sins, the transgressors of Allah's set limits)! They shall be the dwellers of the Fire!
44. "And you will remember what I am telling you, and my affair I leave it to Allah. Verily, Allah is the All-Seer of (His) slaves."
45. So Allah saved him from the evils that they plotted (against him), while an evil torment encompassed Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people.
46. The Fire; they are exposed to it, morning and afternoon, and on the Day when the Hour will be established (it will be said to the angels): "Cause Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people to enter the severest torment!"
47. And, when they will dispute in the Fire, the weak will say to those who were arrogant; "Verily! We followed you, can you then take from us some portion of the Fire?"
48. Those who were arrogant will say: "We are all (together) in this (Fire)! Verily Allah has judged between (His) slaves!"
49. And those in the Fire will say to the keepers (angels) of Hell: "Call upon your Lord to lighten for us the torment for a day!"
50. They will say: "Did there not come to you, your Messengers with (clear) evidences and signs? They will say: "Yes." They will reply: "Then call (as you like)! And the invocation of the disbelievers is nothing but in error!"
51. Verily, We will indeed make victorious Our Messengers and those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism) in this world's life and on the Day when the witnesses will stand forth, (i.e. Day of Resurrection),
52. The Day when their excuses will be of no profit to Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah). Theirs will be the curse, and theirs will be the evil abode (i.e. painful torment in Hell-fire).
53. And, indeed We gave Musa (Moses) the guidance, and We caused the Children of Israel to inherit the Scripture [i.e. the Taurat (Torah)],
54. A guide and a reminder for men of understanding.
