Summary of the Story of Prophet Ibraaheem
عليه السلام
Brief Summary
The Prophet Ibraaheem عليه السلام
was born in Iraaq. His Father’s name was Aazar and he was a disbeliever in
Allaah. He believed in idols. Prophet Ibraaheem عليه السلام tried to teach him
about Allaah but he refused to believe and said he would stone him if he did
not stop.
The people worshipped idols so to
teach the people that these idols cannot benefit or harm them or even protect
themselves he broke them up and hung an axe on the biggest idol. Idols cannot
even talk so how can they benefit humans? The people were very angry with
Ibraaheem so they built a huge fire and threw him in to punish him. Allaah
protected Prophet Ibraaheem عليه
السلام from the heat by miraculously making the fire cool for
Ibraaheem so he was not harmed.
There was a King called Nimrod who
did not believe in Allaah. Prophet Ibraaheem عليه السلام tried to explain to
him that only Allaah deserves to be worshipped alone. The king said that he
gave life and death but when Prophet Ibraaheem عليه السلام asked him to bring
the sun from the west instead of the east he could not answer him.
Prophet Ibraaheem عليه السلام
had a wife called Sarah. When they were passing by a land, the king asked for
Sarah. They both made lots of du’aa to Allaah and Allaah answered them by
paralysing the king so he could not harm her. In the end he gave Haajar to
Sarah and let them go.
Prophet Ibraaheem عليه السلام was blessed with baby Ismaa’eel when he was 86
years old. He took him and his Mother Haajar to Makkah and left them in a
valley as Allaah commanded him to. When Haajar ran out of water she ran between
Mount Safa and Mount Marwah looking for any sign of people who might have water
with them. The miracle of zamzam water sprung up to quench their thirst.
Later when Ismaa’eel was a bit
older Prophet Ibraaheem عليه
السلام had a dream that Allaah commanded him to sacrifice him. This
was a test to see how much Prophet Ibraaheem عليه السلام loved and would obey
Allaah. Just as he was about to sacrifice him Allaah sent a ram to sacrifice
instead.
Prophet Ibraaheem عليه السلام
had a nephew called Loot who was also a Prophet. Loot’s people were evil and
Allaah sent some angels to punish them. On the way they stopped off at Prophet
Ibraaheem’s عليه
السلام house and told him that Sarah was going to have a son and after
him a grandson even though she had not had children all her life.
Prophet Ibraaheem عليه السلام
went to visit Ismaa’eel in Makkah and was commanded to build the Ka’bah which
was the first house constructed to worship Allaah.
Prophet Ibraaheem عليه السلام
passed away in Palestine at the age of 175.
